Here are some ideas for traveling around the Island and enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather.

Taxi Service

There are auto rentals available, but why drive when you can take a taxi around the Island instead? A taxi service allows everyone in your party to enjoy the beautiful scenery on Orcas Island. Taxi service is available 24 hours a day on the Island and some taxis will even pick up your bike if you’ve ridden too far afield and need a lift back to your vacation home. However, during the busy summer vacation months, be sure to reserve your taxi ahead of time if possible to ensure quick and efficient service.

Rent a Moped or Bicycle

One of the best options during the summer for transportation around Orcas Island is renting a moped or bicycle. Q: What it is a Moped?
A: It is a classification of Motor Bike that has an engine displacement of 50cc’s
or less, or capable of speeds less than 30 mph.

A: Originally mopeds did have pedals. Our Mopeds CAN be equipped with pedals,
but would you really want to pedal a 110 pound bike up an Orcas Island hill?
A: YES!  You need a VALID Driver’s License WITH YOU in order to drive a Moped
or Scootcar.  If you are below age 18 you must also ride with your parent
or guardian.
A: Mopeds are regulated by law to only attain a speed of 30 mph.
Due to their small engine size they will go much slower (10-15mph) on steep
hills. Their speed will also be greatly effected by the weight of the rider.
Riders must follow the Rules of the Road and stay to the right to let faster
vehicles pass.
A: No. Our Mopeds have automatic transmissions, so you don’t need to worry
about shifting.  You just need to use a throttle and brakes to control a moped.
If you can ride a bicycle you should be able to handle a moped.

A: Can I carry a passenger on the back of a Moped?
No, it is illegal. Our mopeds are designed for ONE rider only. To carry a
passenger a Moped must have a set of foot pegs for both the driver and the
passenger.  Our Mopeds do not have foot pegs for a passenger. If you wish to ride with a passenger you would need to rent a Scootcar instead which can carry a passenger seated next to you

A: No, there are no trails.  These are road bikes, not meant for off road use. They
are licensed and a legal to use on all public roads on Orcas Island. Scootcars
however are NOT allowed to go on the road to the top of Mt. Constitution.
